Who wants skin cancer. I don't, but it does suggest a certain amount of exposure to the sun and of course, vitamin D enrichment. I suspect that exposure with out burning of the skin would be even more helpful. Just recall though, that as you age your skin is less efficient in making vitamin D....and now the article........
Thought for the Day
Here it is. EVERY illness or disease has a component of inflammation. Everyone of them. Everything from macular degeneration to arthritis and heart disease. The list goes on and on. Everything even ageing. A recent study shows that ageing goes faster the more inflammation there is!
So decrease inflammation in every way possible that you can safely do so and you will reduce your problems with all diseases and age more slowly. This is just logic and its not rocket science!
So how to do it. My blog is loaded with ideas and I use them all. Nice thing about it is that i do not risk significantly any bad side effects. It is all here.
What do they include. Vitamin D, fermented foods ( a good probiotic that will change at least 80% of the bacteria in your gut to good ones). Take your probiotic pill in the am of at least five billion colonies and don't eat for 20 to 30 minutes. Eating will cause acid to flow in your stomach and bile in your duodenum. Both kill the good biotic. So avoid that.
What else? Turmeric in your diet or a pill everyday. Safe at levels of one cup a day! Krill oil. It is a lot better than fish oil and lacks contamination that exist in some fish oils. That is it and the fine points on this are in my blog. Sorry I have not indexed things very well, but this is a hobby that improves my health and yours and I make no money off it. Heck, if I find some thing that takes away pain and makes me live longer with full mobility at my age of 73, that is a good thing. I don't mind sharing. As a girl friend of mine many years ago said, "the best things in life are shared"!
Oh, one more thing. It is nice to have a mind that can still think and calculate as you age. If you are fifty or over and do not take B 12 pills take one. That goes for anyone of any age that uses acid blockers or heart burn medicine. B 12 is just not absorbed well in the older and low acid in the stomach. How much? One mg a day. It is a lot but you have to take a lot to absorb any! And if your Doctor tells you you do not need it your level is normal, don't believe him. Tell him it needs to be in the high range to prevent a Alzheimer like disease from occurring. Again there are no side effects other than a mind that works well.
"The science behind taking supplements". Interesting article and I concur on most everything said there, except I take krill oil and not fish oil. Also I used to take 9,000 iu of vitamin D a day. My test came back to me with a reading of 120 ng/ml, so I cut my dose to five thousand. Once body fat gets saturated over a period of a year or so your blood level can climb quickly. ( A good reason to test annually). Note I have not had any bad effects from taking that much of a dose and it was way below where toxicity occurs at over 200 ng/ml. Still I see no reason to run my levels above lab recommended high levels of 100 ng/ml.
If I was older and had mobility problems that were helped by that level, I might reconsider. So take a look at the article and see what you think, but don't miss the fact that it is stated new things take decades to filter down to the medical community and patients. You get the latest here!
