"Most" people can get to this level with 5k of vitamin D a day. Higher levels suggest even less breast cancer and don't forget 1 in 10 breast cancers are men. So why do I recommend higher intial intake of vitamin D? 1) 1,000 iu per 25 lbs is recommended for children, 2) As we age we absorb that supplement less well, so what is wrong with suggest that as a starting point in adults? 3) Obese people need more and the 5 k a day, to get to the same level of a lighter person, does not take that into account. 4) the few studies that suggest higher cancer levels, in higher doses of vitamin D,comes from countries that are know cod liver oil users. Cod liver oil reduces the effectiveness of vitamin D because of its very high vitamin A content. More than 2500 iu of vitamin A a day interferes with vitamin D absorption. That study has never been replicated in any other non cod liver oil country. 4) Higher levels are associated with more pain relief. Despite my recommendation for "higher" amounts than 5 k, I do recommend testing in 3 months of steady intake of a constant dose of vitamin D. My recommendation is 70 to 100 ng/ml and that is what many learned Doctor's recommend. Emphasis "learned".
Lets face it folks, to have a informed opinion on this subject you have to read a lot of studies, not just the newspaper. Few do.
And now for the study. Copy and paste..
