Vitamin D Newsletter

I am happy to post this newsletter for you to read, however there are articles that are not available to you. I have signed up for this news letter and become a member of the VDC for a nominal yearly fee. This allows me to be able to read the membership articles. It is money well spent as the latest information is posted there. You might consider it. I will not post those studies out of respect for the VDC and their need to continue to educate the general public. To do that they need to be supported financially. My understanding is the articles become available in three months to the public.
In the past year I have made significant changes to my supplements with gratifying results. I will post those changes in the near future. None of this is rocket science and all those changes have made me more tolerant to the aging process. There is nothing better than feeling ten to fifteen years younger than you are and knowing that my life expectancy is increased in the process. Many will not bother to make these changes too, because they are too busy or other reasons. They will continue to suffer more than I from the Diseases of Civilization..
And now the news letter.

Vitamin D Council December 26th, 2012 Dear Friends,

We’re writing to ask you to make a tax-deductible donation to the Vitamin D Council this month.

Two-thousand twelve was a remarkable year for the Vitamin D Council. Like never before, we reached out to millions of people, improving people’s lives through education and awareness. We achieved this by using the best tools and technologies out there today to communicate with the masses effectively and efficiently.

But we couldn't do it without you. This is a growing organization that needs your help, to continue to push forward and get the word out on vitamin D.

I know times are tough, and there are many charities you may be considering giving to. But it is becoming more and more evident that vitamin D is one of the most important issues of our time, and we need to get it right. A donation to the Vitamin D Council would do a great deal of good to the world.

Please, donate now.

All of my best,

John J Cannell, MD

Vitamin D and Respiratory infections

12/22/2012

So a double blind study in a group of people who tend to be sickly and have more than average infections. It's a video so it is a little more digestible and it does NOT show what a difference a higher amount of vitamin D would do. Some are suggesting a much better response when the level is between 70 and 100 ng/ml.
Here it is.....the evidence piles up.....and the studies are coming faster.....Copy and paste

RCT: Vitamin D levels and traumatic brain injury
December 18, 2012 -- Brant Cebulla
A new randomized controlled trial from Iran suggests that vitamin D could play an important role in the treatment of traumatic brain injury.

The study, led by Professor Bahram Aminmansour and colleagues from Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, investigated whether vitamin D in conjunction with progesterone could improve recovery rates in patients with traumatic brain injury.

Currently, physicians have few drugs that are effectively neuro-protective after a traumatic brain injury. Progesterone has been identified as safe and effective, protecting the blood-brain barrier, and helping prevent cerebral edema, excessive inflammatory response, and necrosis. It also helps stimulate myelin formation, reduces free radicals, and helps prevent neuronal loss.

Recent studies have suggested that vitamin D deficiency may worsen traumatic brain injury and reduce the effects of current treatment. Like progesterone, activated vitamin D is a neurosteroid and has proven to be effective aiding recovery in animal models, perhaps by mechanisms similar to progesterone, which is also a steroid hormone. A paper by a Doctor has come to my attention blaming the Federal Government for keeping the people sick. I will let you decide if it is by commission or omission. Thanks to Margaret for making me aware of this interesting article.

Some Facts

12/11/2012

I love facts and the inevitable conclusions that come as a result of those facts.

I)  As one ages immune function decreases and inflammation increases.
2) Every known disease has a inflammation component.
3)  Vitamin D and fermented foods reduce inflammation.
4) Reduce inflammation and you reduce disease.
5) There is a inverse relationship between vitamin D levels and disease. Another way of saying this is as the vitamin D level goes up disease goes down.
6) At Grassrootshealth.org has documented that relationship between vitamin D and disease. So has vitamin D council.
7) Schizophrenia has, as a part of the disease,  increased inflammation of the brain.
8) Use of probiotics, which involves fermented food use, decreases inflammation.
9) Inflammation from unfriendly bacteria sends messages to the brain via the vagus nerve causing anxiety, stress and a tendency toward depression.
10) Probiotic bacteria (friendly) produce vitamin k2.
11) Vitamin K2 in one study reduced calcium in coronary arteries by fifty percent in six months. Calcium in the coronary is the leading indicator that a heart attack is likely, NOT cholesterol.
!2) Anti inflammatory probiotics decrease inflammation in the gut.
13) Eighty five percent of immune function is in the gut. Immune function improves as a result of optimized vitamin D levels and probiotic's in the gut, big time. Improved immune function means less, colds, flu, shingles, cancer etc etc.
14) Decreasing inflammation in the gut causes a communication to the brain by the vagus nerve leading to less stress and anxiety. Stimulating the vagus nerve with a electrical stimulator ( much like a pacemaker) has been used to treat depression. It works.
15) Decrease inflammation and you decrease illness, pain, and increase immune function which should in my opinion lead to a longer and more comfortable life.
16) If you increase immune function and decrease inflammation you feel and act younger. I believe you are, effectively, younger!
17) This works for me and I believe it will work for you.
