As I looked over my "about" page I saw a couple of things that may have made you wonder. One, instead of saying frankincense, my spell check corrected me and said frankenstein. Wow...wonder what people thought about that. Weird right. Well I don't have a secretary to check me and we tend to see words that we wish we spelled right, right. So much for that.
Also I am seeing that there are "stories", and again I will say it "stories", of people who have taken large doses of vitamin D. These are NOT studies, yet they are interesting. One in which a cancer prostate patient that had been diagnosed turned normal and another in which a Multiple Sclerosis patient was able to assume a normal life after being in a wheel chair. I will be the first to say this does not prove anything. The MS patient claimed they do this all the time in Brazil and there is a website dedicated to it. Maybe that is so. I don't read Portuguese.
The doses they took was 10,000 iu a day for the Prostate cancer and the MS patient took 50,000 iu a day. No one ever got toxic from 10,000 iu a day. The MS patient ran a level of 160+ ng. Her calcium level was normal, per the story, and she constantly checks every few months to make sure it is.. Toxicity only occurs above 200 ng and only when blood calcium levels rise above normal.
I must add a caution. When you take vitamin D it USES up MAGNESIUM. A low magnesium can make you subject to irregular heart beat. That can be dangerous. Everyone who takes vitamin D should be on MAGNESIUM. Don't take magnesium oxide. Don't because it is a lousy source and a good laxative. I take Magnesium malate. Increase the dose to 300 to 425 mg over a period of a few days to make sure it does not have a sudden laxative effect. Split the doses up into two or three times a day. That way it will be better tolerated and less laxative effect will be noticed.
Magnesium oxide is only 4% absorbed and stays in the gut. That is why it is such a good laxative. Other magnesium preparations are much better absorbed into the blood stream so there is much less magnesium left in the gut and less laxative effect. I take 425 mg a day and my water is well water. Well water is a significant source of magnesium.
All this assumes you have read my about page. If you have not....please do.
